JUST HOW FAR ARE SOME WILLING TO GO FOR A SKATE PARK?
In an effort to help a good cause and have a good time, or perhaps in a lapse of good judgement, Jeff Smee and Bryce Toole will be attempting to ride their BMX bicycles to Florida to raise money for Pitcher Park Memorial Skate Park.
The Pitcher family never met either of these two industrious young men until the Pitcher Park Rally/Protest on August 31, 2009 , when they first informed them of their determination to accomplish this very long trek and to help Pitcher Park by raising money along the way.
On September 15 at Noon, they left with nothing but their bikes and the contents in their backpacks on the over 970 mile trek to Casselberry, Florida (right outside of Orlando) from Mt. Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. If they reach their goal of 40 miles a day, they hope to reach Florida by Halloween.
They are taking the Great Allegheny Passage east from Pittsburgh and then they will take the Atlantic Coast Bike Route south all the way to Casselberry, Florida. Their trip takes them through Richmond, Virginia and Savannah, Georgia and other smaller cities along the way.
Smee & Toole are sponsored by Round Two bike shop, who will maintain their bikes and Mercenary is keeping them in style with shirts announcing the meaning of their trek. Mary Pitcher is hoping that a few of Pitcher Park’s 4,200 friends on Twitter may come forward to house these young men along the way and that people visit their website to make a donation to Pitcher Park for their valiant effort to raise funds for Pitcher Park Memorial Skate Park.
