Mt. Lebanon UP Church & Pitcher Park Team Up to Show Dormont
What Community Spirit Can Accomplish!
Despite the pre-historic poinson ivy and oak surrounding these courts & the extreme heat a great effort was shown by all involved!
As a part of the motion of April 5, 2010, which allowed the Pitcher Park Memorial Skatepark the opportunity to raise the necessary funds and build a skatepark along Banksville road the group had to refurbish the tennis courts on Memorial Drive. This process was started with the help of the Mt. Lebanon Up Church's "Mission Possible" week, when the Church members do volunteer work for their surrounding communities. This effort is in it's third year and this is a very dedicated and energetic group of people, many who use their vacation time to help those in need and with the Spirit of God in their hearts, they litterally help hundreds of people. With blood drives, free community picnics, renovating houses, cleaning up yards, etc, to projects like the tennis courts for Pitcher Park, they show what can really be accomplished through true community spirit! It is amazing to witness and what a great feeling it gives you! People really do care!
Pitcher Park will be completing this task with foundation work being done to the courts, poles installed along with nets, a playing surface being added and lines being placed on the courts. Most of the courts fences were completely covered with poison ivy and the fences and trees had poison oak growing all over them. All but three people involved with this project contracted poison ivy/oak, but it did not stop this project from going forward. They have taken steps to combat the remaining poison ivy behind the fence by using rock salt to try and kill it at the roots for good!
Pitcher Park sincerely wishes to THANK THE MT. LEBANON UP CHURCH for all their support from the very inceptiion of the skatepark project for the youth in the community.
